Nicey Nice World, inception: fall of 2010. The original line up consisted of: Jim Call on Theremin, organ and woodblocks; Joyce Rooks on Cello and voice and Marcelo Radulovich on Electronics, drum machines and voice. At the core of the band was an appreciation of the moment as the ultimate composer. With a penchant for improvisation, the quirk and the value of it, the trio recorded rehearsals and began performing regularly. Quickly and slowly half structured songs took shape, which led to the band recording their first album in 2011. Since then Nicey Nice World has continued to explore the blend of structure in improvisation, the poetry of when, the expression of it. Various players have graced the sound through the years and helped to create a rich catalog of musical adventures, Nonsectarian is album #6.

Obelisks and Asterisks
by Nicey Nice World (2020)

Spastic space place pools in plastic spools in our notes, on the wooden arms of the deck chairs, in the sand, carved on the sheltering trees, purple in the swirls of cream in cups of tea, extracted from the riotous rhetoric of the sons of liberty upon Father Washington’s phallic monument, pyramidal punctuation pooling in crow and cobweb alike. Like sailors swimming the glowing red tide torrent, clutching the sick, sick, sick, maelstrom … swirling … dipping … holding the spastic place aloft in quiet despair, uncertain in the rough ride … uncertain in the shining tide …. uncertain in the slush though afar a lighthouse. Uncertain, we sing we thee ~ uncertain fate, a fait accompli. We clutch uncertainty in our spastic embrace, relishing doubt and disunion, monumental and infinitesimal. We sing we thee … obelisks and asterisks.

8 Times Larger Than Earth

“But there is a planet, and we’ve spoken of this before, of crystalline carbon, a diamond planet, 8 times larger than Earth.” We are on this planet, with every noise we make, with every thought we think, with every plan we undo, with every act we play, with every flight we take. With this amalgamation of sound Nicey Nice World masticates the strangeness and charm of the Multiverse. Adventureland we invite you to, with every breath we inhale, with every inspiration we fire, with every diamond we harden, with every bone we contend. We charge with electricity. Come.

Egad! These many months we have labored, a frolicsome labor to be sure, but, now it is ready. Nicey Nice World presents an album of songs, a goodly collection of polite tunes… genteel, but without treacle. We hold the door open and roll out a red carpet to a nicey nice world, a couth and mannerly world, in which is nonetheless witnessed the awesome destructive power of the super magic fire and is playfully populated by such otherly characters as Dracula, Marcel Duchamp, the Wiggins Sisters… and we three.
We offer delectations delineated with cello and theremin, organ and voice, improbable electrics, toys and iPhone® apps, humbly hoping to amuse you and induce you to slip with us for a few moments into a forest of forgetfulness, well past grandmother’s house, as we sport with noise in antic flirtation. Welcome to Nicey Nice World.
